    It’s another season of Maverick Hockey, and there are a lot of unanswered questions to start the campaign. With 15 newcomers on the roster (8 freshmen, 5 sophomores, 1 junior, and 1 senior) there are a lot of unfamiliar faces. 

    This is the first chance to see all of those fresh faces in real game action this season and it is covered in our weekly preview  — which includes ways to watch and listen to the games, quotes from UNO Hockey players, and additional details and content to get your ready for the game!

    On this episode of the Mavpuckcast, Jon and Jason take a look at the new logo unveiled by the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) as the conference gets ready to grow to 10 teams in the 2026-27 season. They talk about the news that the NCHC will not air hockey games on the CBS Sports Network this season. They discuss new Omaha Hockey assistant coach — and recruiting coordinator — Jamie Huffman. They also each pick a pair of Mavericks among the newcomers they are looking forward to watching this season. They conclude the episode with their NCHC preseason rankings — an annual tradition on the podcast to start the season!

    The Omaha Maverick Hockey team held a press conference for local media on Sept. 24, 2025. Omaha Hockey Coach Mike Gabinet, forward Brett Hyland, and defenseman Griffin Ludtke fielded a variety of questions during the press conference including topics such as preparations for the upcoming season and adjusting to a roster with 15 new players for the 2025-26 season.

    On this special episode of the Mavpuckcast, Jon and Jason have a wide-ranging discussion with Chicago Blackhawks Head USA and Crossover Scout Rob Facca. Facca is a former Omaha Maverick Hockey player and a former NCAA Division I assistant coach at Northern Michigan and Western Michigan. Rob discusses today’s amateur hockey landscape, changes NIL brings to the recruiting process, the recent NCAA eligibility change regarding major junior players from Canada, what it is like to be a professional scout, and his memories of playing hockey at UNO.

Israels (a native of Mississauga, Ontario) talks about his career, how he ended up choosing the Mavericks in the transfer portal (after four seasons with Alaska-Fairbanks), how he prepares for games, his favorite road venue to play in, his love for travel, hobbies, and goals.
